AICPA & CIMA 2025 conference

The predominant theme of the 2025 AICPA & CIMA Conference on Current SEC and PCAOB Developments, staged in Washington, D.C. on December 8-10, was standard setters and regulators taking a “back to basics” approach, emphasizing the necessity to strike the appropriate balance between the needs of all stakeholders and, where possible, to simplify reporting requirements.

Additionally, they stressed a need for reprioritizing the global alignment of both accounting and auditing standards, noting that achieving global alignment will reduce burdens imposed on all stakeholders by the existence of multiple sets of standards while promoting high-quality financial reporting.

Finally, conference speakers emphasized the ongoing evolution of, and strategic imperative to embrace the use of, artificial intelligence in the financial reporting ecosystem.

Snapshot 2025-20 highlights these and other topics discussed at the conference, including rulemaking activity; recent SEC consultations; disclosure considerations; capital market transactions, including mergers and acquisitions; and auditor independence.

Key conference speakers covered in our publication include SEC Chairman Paul Atkins; SEC Chief Accountant Kurt Hohl; AICPA President and CEO Mark Koziel; FASB Chairman Richard Jones; Grant Thornton Partner and Chairman of FinREC Rahul Gupta; CorpFin Director James Moloney and Chief Accountant Heather Rosenberger; and PCAOB Chief Auditor Barbara Vanich.
