PHILADELPHIA — Grant Thornton LLP, one of America’s largest providers of audit and assurance, tax and advisory services, is celebrating a new award win. Angelica Roiz, an Audit and Assurance partner and longtime leader in the Philadelphia market, has been named a “40 Under 40” honoree by the Philadelphia Business Journal. This prestigious list recognizes the city’s up-and-coming leaders, and Roiz and her fellow award recipients were chosen from among hundreds of candidates.
As a member of the national leadership team for Grant Thornton’s Not-for-Profit and Higher Education practice, Roiz provides comprehensive audit and assurance services to large institutions within the cultural, higher education and social services sectors.
“I started at Grant Thornton as an intern, and now, as a partner, I share this recognition with the dozens of colleagues and mentors who made my growth journey possible,” said Roiz. “Because of my incredible teammates and support system, I believe I can make an even greater difference for my teammates, my clients and the nonprofit organizations I serve as a volunteer or board member.”
Since joining Grant Thornton in 2005, Roiz has served the firm in a succession of leadership roles. She was promoted to partner at 32: an accelerated milestone made possible by her superior client service and her focus on community-building both within and beyond her firm.
A devoted mentor, Roiz has served in multiple leadership roles for the firm’s Business Resource Groups. Specifically, Roiz is the Philadelphia office champion of Grant Thornton’s Women & Allies Business Resource Group, and she was that same group’s inaugural national executive sponsor. She also serves on the group’s programming and external relations committees. Roiz helps oversee all of the various Business Resource Group activities in the Philadelphia office, facilitating meaningful engagement and cross-collaboration between the diverse groups. Through these roles, she provides holistic support to her colleagues in Philadelphia and nationwide.
Outside of work, Roiz is on the Women in Business Committee for the Forum of Executive Women in Philadelphia, where she helps program “Conversations in the Boardroom” for current and aspiring board members in the Philadelphia area. She is also a member, mentor and sponsor for the POWER of Professional Women, and she is on the board of the National Epilepsy Foundation.
She previously served as a Women's Steering Committee Member for the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, where she volunteered as a mentor for the “Girls Today Leaders Tomorrow” Program for a number of years.
“I’m a Philly kid, born and raised, and it’s incredibly rewarding to give back to my community,” she added. “That’s what continues to drive me: the chance to use my talents and experience to help the city that’s given me and my family so much.”
Dave Maturo, Grant Thornton’s managing principal in the Philadelphia market, has seen Roiz’s passion and experience create tremendous value for her clients.
“The pandemic has created more demand for nonprofits while exacerbating the enrollment challenges that were already impacting colleges and universities,” said Maturo. “Angelica is the perfect partner at a time like this because she goes far beyond what is expected from an audit leader. She gets to know her clients on a deep level, then pinpoints ways to support them strategically and operationally.”
“Because of leaders like Angelica,” he concluded, “our Philadelphia office continues to grow.”
