Scenario

A global fintech needed common risk practices

A global fintech company supporting the financial services industry had a proactive vision for enterprise risk management and continued growth across a complex operating environment. As the organization expanded, leaders recognized the need for clearer risk ownership, stronger governance and more consistent execution across the business.

The opportunity extended across enterprise risk management, policy and governance, risk appetite, monitoring, risk technology, frontline execution, vendor risk management and third-party risk management. Leaders recognized that they needed greater transparency into risk, stronger accountability and better alignment between risk practices and regulatory expectations.

To support continued growth and informed decision-making, the organization sought a scalable approach that could strengthen monitoring, improve accountability and embed consistent risk management capabilities across the enterprise.

Approach

From risk design to operating discipline

To help chart a path forward, Grant Thornton worked with leadership and risk practitioners to identify practical opportunities for strengthening risk management capabilities and embedding them into daily operations. The team provided guidance to enhance the enterprise risk framework, clarify risk ownership and accountability, refresh risk appetite statements, develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and strengthen RCSA governance and methodology.

The approach focused on aligning risk management practices with the organization's current maturity while creating a foundation that could support future growth. By emphasizing practical adoption, scalable execution and sustainable outcomes, Grant Thornton helped convert enterprise risk objectives into operational capabilities that business teams could consistently apply.

Grant Thornton also advised on the architecture and future direction of the client's GRC platform. The work included assessing the current-state environment, defining target-state workflows, developing implementation roadmaps and identifying expanded use cases for risk assessments and examination management.

Across the engagement, the team connected enterprise strategy with frontline execution, bringing together enterprise risk management, first-line risk functions, enterprise vendor management and third-party risk management into a more coordinated operating model.

A stronger foundation for enterprise risk decisions

The client now has a more consistent enterprise risk management foundation, stronger linkage between risk appetite and monitoring, a repeatable RCSA program and a clearer path toward integrated risk enablement. These capabilities have improved visibility into enterprise risk and strengthened the organization's ability to identify emerging risks earlier.

The engagement also increased execution capacity, supported faster remediation efforts, improved alignment between first- and second-line functions and standardized vendor lifecycle processes from intake through offboarding. As a result, the organization has a more consistent enterprise-wide risk model that can scale for expanding business, vendor relationships and regulatory expectations.

By strengthening governance, improving transparency and increasing operational efficiency, the client has successfully advanced its risk management capabilities while enhancing leadership decision-making. The organization is now better positioned to manage risk proactively, support future growth and adapt as regulatory and business requirements continue to evolve.
