Mike Burgess

Mike is a Partner in Grant Thornton's Audit Methodology and Standards Group. Mike is currently the U.S. Implementation Leader for a the firm's redesigned audit technology platform. In his current role, Mike is responsible for the tool's technical audit methodology, the user experience and efficiency of the software platform, and all facets of the firm's adoption, including the associated tools, templates, guidance, resources, and training. 

Prior to joining the Audit Methodology and Standards Group, Mike was a Senior Manager in Grant Thornton's Carolinas audit practice. During his 15+ years of public accounting experience, Mike has worked extensively with entities ranging from development-stage start-ups to complex, international corporations. Mike has served a wide variety of SEC registrants and privately-held companies in the technology, manufacturing, and real estate industries. Mike has also provided consulting services with regards to Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 internal controls and performed other attestation services, including reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures. Mike has extensive experience with complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, and share-based compensation.
