Jim has over 30 years of tax experience working with a diverse client base. He serves as a Tax Managing Director in Grant Thornton’s Boston tax practice.
Prior to re-joining Grant Thornton Jim lead a competitor firm’s largest private equity client. A full tax department outsource of a multinational private equity firm with 29 billion AUM. Jim was also a Managing Director at one of the Big Four firms serving as the tax lead for over 180 mutual funds 60 partnerships and several offshore nonregistered investment vehicles, he worked for Fidelity Investments as a Tax Director and for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Tax Manager. Jim works with both domestic and offshore clients on complex, strategic tax planning and compliance, with a particular expertise in partnership structures for financial service companies. Jim has experience working with mutual funds, investment partnerships (Hedge Funds), venture capital and private equity partnerships and portfolio companies, master/feeder structures, common trust funds, exchange traded funds, master limited partnerships, business development companies and limited liability companies. Jim also has extensive experience assisting clients in setting up offshore structures such as CFC’s, blocker corporations, PFICs and QEF’s. Jim frequently consults with clients regarding international tax issues.
Professional qualifications and memberships
Jim is an Enrolled Agent licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. He is a member of the Mass Society of CPA's Investment Companies Committee and Alternative Investments Committee.
Jim graduated from Boston College with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Operations Management .
