Robert D. Clarke

Rob is based in Tampa, FL and is the Global Indirect Tax Leader for Grant Thornton Advisors, which includes indirect tax technology, global tax transformation, sales and use tax, VAT, property tax, credits and incentives, and unclaimed property. He previously led the Tax Digital Consulting practice, which focused on helping clients undertake the digital transformation journey with consultative services and solutions, including indirect and direct tax automation, tax transformation, and data transformation and analytics. Rob has also served on the tax leadership team for the firm for nearly a decade.

Through the Global Indirect Tax Services team, his team drives the firm’s AI-enabled indirect tax technology projects, including data transformation, business process automation workflows, analytics and visualizations; indirect tax engine, e-invoicing, and global indirect compliance implementations, support and maintenance; process improvement of the indirect and entire tax function; and data strategies to drive efficiency, accuracy, and visibility for tax and finance departments to modernize organizations.

Rob works with large enterprises in many industries, including technology, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, financial services, and hospitality. He speaks at both industry and professional association seminars, including Tax Executives Institute, the Florida Bar Tax Section Conference, the Council on State Taxation, the IPT Symposium, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the FICPA Mega Conference, among many others.

In addition, he has authored multiple articles on state taxation, has served as an expert witness in litigation for sales and use tax matters for two major international law firms, and been interviewed for articles in publications, including the Harvard Business Review, Vertex, and Thomson Reuters.
