Comment: ASB’s Strategic Plan

In our letter responding to the AICPA Auditing Standards Board’s (ASB’s) Strategic Plan for 2026 – 2030, we applaud the Board’s proposal but ask its members to consider clarifying the factors driving its “Expectations of Stakeholders” to avoid potential misinterpretations. Further, we suggest that the Board develop formal project proposals under its “Our Strategic Actions” category to explicitly include consideration of actions that may be needed to set new standards or to develop or revise existing authoritative and nonauthoritative guidance.

What’s more, we believe that these two topics should be at the forefront of the ASB’s standard-setting agenda over the next five years:

  • Monitoring and influencing the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board’s project on audit evidence and risk response to reflect the interests of the individuals and institutions that the AICPA serves.
  • Using technology-enabled procedures and technology resources by auditors and practitioners across the suite of the ASB’s standards, including AI.
