Executive summary

 

Luann Serafin is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton's Valuation and Modeling practice, and she leads the Mid-Atlantic Valuation and Modeling team as well as Grant Thornton’s Modeling efforts.

 

In this role, she provides valuation and modeling services to Grant Thornton’s commercial and government clients spanning a variety of industries. Luann has a particular focus on government contracting, financial services, and IT services. Other industries include but are not limited to technology, aerospace and defense, alternative energy, biotechnology, and manufacturing.

 

Luann’s valuation work primarily consists of valuing equity, intangible assets, debt and derivative securities for the purpose of financial and tax reporting (ASC 805, ASC 820, ASC 350), stock-based compensation (ASC 718, 409A), portfolio valuation, and litigation. Her team is part of the complex financial investment segment of Grant Thornton’s valuation practice. They model complex capital structures, earn-outs and other situations that require advanced modeling skills.

 

Luann’s modeling work consists of supporting applicants to the Department of Energy’s Loan Program office and well as the CHIPs Act Program Office. Her team also assists, FP&A and corporate development teams in developing robust financial models. Previously, she supported the Department of Energy’s Advance Technology Vehicle Manufacturing program in building detailed credit models to determine the viability of potential loan applicants. She also supported the Department of Treasury in its determination of the estimated fair value of its holdings in the GSEs securities.

 

Luann is a seasoned financial services professional with over 20 years of experience, providing valuation, credit analysis, financial due diligence, restructuring and bankruptcy, and corporate finance services to commercial and government clients. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, she spent 12 years working for boutique valuation and financial consulting firms, as well as a Big Four firm with a focus on financial services.

Education

  • Luann received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Virginia and a master’s of business administration from the Leonard H. Stern School of Business at New York University.
