Vern Butler




Executive summary


Vern Butler is a management consulting executive with 20-plus years of business development and client service experience focusing on the federal market space, primarily Department of Defense. Butler currently serves as Grant Thornton’s Defense and Intelligence practice leader. In this capacity he is responsible for setting the market strategy and leading all business development activities. He also has P&L duties and is responsible for successful execution delivery of the Defense and Intelligence practice portfolio in support of Grant Thornton clients. He is best known for his capabilities centering on P&L management, account strategy development, leadership team selection, pipeline and sales expansion, and staff development. He is recognized for a unique ability to foster collaboration across diverse groups focusing on a common set of goals and objectives to drive superior results as demonstrated in multiple transformation initiatives.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Butler served as the vice president responsible for Booz Allen Hamilton’s Navy and Marine Corps strategy and organization (S&O) business. The S&O portfolio was approximately $35M and focused on the Navy HQ, NAVSEA, and NAVAIR markets. A majority of Butler’s earlier career was spent with KPMG Consulting, BearingPoint and Deloitte. He held positions of increasing responsibility to include Deloitte federal optimization executive, BearingPoint office enterprise risk management and delivery excellence executive, Office of the Secretary of Defense and defense agencies sector leader, and KPMG’s NAVSEA client service partner.
