Executive summary

 

Mike Carter is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton’s Operational Transformation Advisory practice. Mike has a unique combination of Operational Risk Management Skills, Source-to-Pay Operational Excellence, Procurement Model Design and Third-Party Contract Risk Reduction experiences. 

 

 

 

Experience

 

With more than 25 years of experience across consulting and banking industries, Mike has served large global banking clients in both an advisory and executive capacity.

 

Following his tenure at Arthur Andersen Business Consulting, he joined Bank of America where he focused on Risk and Control optimization. Mike designed, deployed and managed their global automated control monitoring solution and later assumed the role of Audit Director for the Consumer Bank. In this role, he oversaw audit coverage of all US Branches, all Customer Contact Centers and the online presence for marketing, sales and fulfilment.  After an assignment as the Technology Infrastructure Business Control Executive, where he championed enhancements to the RCSA program, Carter was asked to lead all global processes for Sourcing & Procurement at Bank of America. Mike has been a featured speaker in the US, Europe and Asia on the topic of effective Vendor Risk Management and Contract Lifecycle diligence, interpreting regulatory guidance from OCC, FFIEC, SEC, FRB, FDIC & CFPB.

 

Most recently, Mike is leading the Issues Management, Third Party Risk Management, RCSA & Testing program validation for a high-profile remediation effort at a top 5 global bank. In this role, he has worked closely with regulators to understand Operational Risk Program expectations and assist the bank’s executive management in their efforts to comply effectively and efficiently. Mike has also recently been asked to play a leadership role in the Audit validation of risk management enhancements at a top 10 US Bank.

 

 

 

Professional qualifications and memberships

 

Mike holds a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification. Additionally, he is certified through FINRA for the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE Exam). ACAMS certification expired. He is also a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Institute of Supply Management. 

 

Community involvement

 

Mike serves as a mentor with ConnectThree foundation, assisting in student career development.  Previously served as Finance Committee chairman for the WFU Business School Alumni Development Council
