In our comments responding to the proposed changes to the Exposure Draft, Government Auditing Standards, issued by the U. S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), we express support for the proposed revisions and agree that the updated requirements will promote high-quality work conducted by audit organizations on engagements governed by Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS). We have also identified certain tenets of the proposal that we believe could be either strengthened or clarified or that might result in unintended consequences.
