Matthew DiDonato

 

 

 

Executive summary

 

Matthew is the Metro New York managing principal for Grant Thornton. He serves as a firm ambassador and demonstrates stewardship in the metro New York market by building brand value, engaging the firm’s colleagues, and driving strategies that lead to profitable and strategic growth. Additionally, Matthew builds strong relationships with clients, key influencers and the business community. He also serves as a tax principal and leads the state and local tax (SALT) practice for Grant Thornton’s Northeast region.

 

Matthew's skills encompass the full range of state and local taxation, including income, franchise and sales/use taxation research and planning for diverse business organizations and transactions. He has worked with various types of business entities, including corporate, partnership and trust entities engaged in industries such as asset management, banking, insurance, life sciences, media and entertainment, real estate and retail. He negotiates and resolves state tax disputes, facilitates requests for advisory opinions, opinions of counsel, voluntary disclosures and audit defense. He was previously Grant Thornton's office managing partner in New Jersey.

 

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Matthew served the SALT practice for Ernst and Young LLP's Financial Services organization. He was previously Tax Transactions and Consulting Counsel at Mayer Brown, LLP. During this time, he served a full spectrum of clients on matters related to business transactions and multistate tax matters.

 

Matthew served as vice President and tax counsel at the tax department of a prominent investment bank, where he was responsible for managing the tax implications arising from newly developed business lines and acquired businesses, including companies within the power and energy industry. Previously, Matthew was a senior manager at another Big Four's accounting firm, where he focused on multistate tax matters.
