Ariane Whittemore is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton's Public Sector practice based in Arlington, Virginia. Ms. Whittemore leads Grant Thornton's Department of the Navy Account (U. S. Navy and U. S. Marine Corps), devising and leading the go-to market strategy. She also serves as the Public Sector's Senior Defense Advisor, developing the annual Defense Strategic Plan and assisting the Defense leadership team with client engagement, proposals, and representation.

 

Ms. Whittemore leads engagements across the Department of Defense including at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Navy, and Marine Corps. She leads engagement in data analytics, performance management, robotic process automation, process improvement, policy development, financial resource management, and financial audit support.

 

Ms. Whittemore brings to Grant Thornton over 30 years of public service in the Department of Defense (DoD); with 20 years as a Senior Executive (equivalent to an Admiral or General). Her DoD experience includes senior leadership positions in financial management, strategy and policy development, logistics, people and culture, and executive management.

 

Ms. Whittemore served as the U. S. Marine Corps' Senior Civilian Executive responsible for Program and Resource Management of over $35 billion and led the Marine Corps financial statement audit; advised the Chief of Naval Operations on resource allocation strategies for Navy's $25 billion Fleet Readiness and Logistics programs; served as strategic advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs; served Senior Civilian Advisor to the Commander U. S. Indo-Pacific Command; and served in numerous Budget Director positions for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Financial Management and Comptroller.
