Johnny J. Lee
Johnny Lee is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton LLP’s Corporate Advisory & Restructuring Services. He has 17 years of interim management, accounting, transaction, restructuring and financial advisory experience including a broad range of services to corporations or other parties of interest including secured lenders, unsecured creditors and buyers.
Lee’s recent experience includes serving as interim CFO for a subsidiary of a multi-billion revenue global telecommunications company. In his role, he was responsible for quantifying and correcting the effects of certain accounting considerations while working with the corporate parent controller and external auditors to obtain audit sign off. He also developed cash forecasting models, financial projections, quarterly/annual budgets and assisted in negotiations of the sale of the subsidiary including diligence efforts to close the sale.
Lee led a debtor advisory engagement team to Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in its efforts to sell its assets in bankruptcy and buyers in purchasing distressed assets. Clients include Highmark Inc in its investment to build an integrated network of 7 hospitals and hundreds of physicians. Lee also advised a foreign buyer in its bid for aerospace company Hawker Beechcraft.
His interim management experience also includes serving on the finance team of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center, one of the largest healthcare restructurings in history. He was responsible for benefits analyses related to the over 6,000 active physician and employees and assisted in negotiations with asset purchasers and labor unions.
Lee has served in numerous situations for a company as an accountant or adviser to assist with its accounting close or as subject matter expert to assist the audit team. Work performed consisted of preparation of financial statements, writing appropriate notes and footnotes to the financial statements, preparation of white papers, preparation of journal entries, and reviewing the chart of accounts of the new and old entities for valuation and accounting considerations. Clients served include Career Education Corporation, Brookstone Holdings, Tecumseh Products, Friendly’s Ice Cream, Journal Register, Mesa Airlines, Bally Total Fitness, Calpine Corporation, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., Integrated Electrical Services, Mirant Corporation, Loral Space & Communications, and MCI Worldcom.
Lee has provided forensic and investigative services for FCPA investigations, served on audit teams, performed diligence and quality of earnings review in proposed merger and acquisitions transactions, advised lenders in the negotiation of credit facilities, and advised creditors in out-of-court negotiations.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Lee served as a manager in the Reorganization Services Group at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP and worked in the Accounting and Finance department of Gap Inc.
