Frank Schaefer has worked in multistate taxation for more than 35 years, with a focus on sales, use, income and franchise taxes. Previously, he spent six years as a director in the New Jersey state and local tax practice of a Big Four firm. Schaefer founded and was the leader of Grant Thornton’s SALT practice for the Metro New York area for more than eight years. He also served as a senior tax auditor with the Florida Department of Revenue and the chief of audit for the Northeast region for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
Schaefer has written for the CPA Journal, the Journal of New York Taxation, the Tax Adviser and the Journal of Multistate Taxation. He has been a featured presenter at Interstate Tax Seminars and has spoken at FAE’s Annual Accounting Show, TEI’s State and Local Tax Section, Council on State Taxation regional meetings, the National Institute on State & Local Taxation, the FTA’s Revenue Estimating and Tax Research Conference, the National Conference of CPA Practitioners and the Center for International Tax Education.
