Geoff is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton’s Corporate Value Consulting practice and a retired KPMG Valuation Partner. Prior to KPMG he was a partner with Arthur Andersen. He has more than 30 years of experience assisting domestic and international companies with valuations for mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, bankruptcy, fresh start accounting, financial reporting and tax planning. Geoff is a CPA/ABV, CFA and ASA, and has completed the AICPA’s requirements for the Certified in Entity and Intangible Asset Valuations.
Geoff has served as an expert witness In the World Court, Delaware Chancery Court, Illinois State Court, Federal Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, binding arbitration, and non-binding arbitration. He has also assisted many clients respond to inquiries from the SEC and IRS.
Geoff has performed cross-border valuations in the U.S., Netherlands, Canada, England, Belgium, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, South Africa, Aruba, Brazil, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Bahrain, Japan, China and South Korea. He has also performed valuation assignments on companies and assets in other countries without visiting those countries.
He has worked in many industries including casinos, exchanges (stock, options, FX and electricity/power contracts, clearinghouses), hospitality, telecomm, software, technology, manufacturing, food, consumer products, retail, media, content, data and analytics, pharmaceutical, medical device, bio-tech, transportation and aerospace and defense.
His client assignments were for M&A due diligence, financial reporting (ASC 805, ASC 350, ASC 718, IFRS 3, IAS 36), tax planning, and litigation support. He has performed valuations of businesses, investments, options, preferred stock, debt and intangible assets, including in-process R&D.

Geoff has worked on many large complicated financial reporting and tax valuations including,
- Geoff performed the ASC 805 financial reporting and tax valuations for H.J. Heinz’s $54 Billon dollar acquisition of Kraft Foods Group. He then performed the subsequent ASC 350 goodwill valuation for the new company, Kraft Heinz Corporation.
- He performed the ASC 805 financial reporting and tax valuations for Berkshire Hathaway’s and 3G Capital’s $29 Billon dollar acquisition of H.J. Heinz. He had also performed many ASC 805, ASC 350 and tax planning valuations for Heinz before and after the Berkshire Hathaway-3G acquisition.
- Geoff performed the financial reporting and tax valuation when Unilever paid $24 Billion for Bestfoods. He subsequently performed many tax valuations for Unilever.
