Michael has been practicing in the state and local tax area for more than 18 years and is the Practice Leader of Grant Thornton’s State and Local Tax Practice in California. He has primarily focused on income and franchise tax review and planning, and has also spent significant amounts of time assisting clients with other state and local tax issues, including sales and use tax issues.
Michael has extensive experience with implementing sophisticated state and local tax restructurings, analyzing the potential state tax ramifications arising from potential acquisitions, dispositions and/or mergers, and performing multistate nexus reviews.
Michael has also assisted clients with state audit defense and negotiation matters and with voluntary disclosure issues. He has primarily served clients in the manufacturing, energy, retail, transportation, communications and professional service industries. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Michael worked for Big Four public accounting firms.
