David Boland is the chief knowledge officer for Grant Thornton LLP. Throughout his 25+ years of experience, he has focused the majority of his career in the field of knowledge management, and has witnessed and helped shape the transformation of the discipline in the professional services industry. Boland has led knowledge management initiatives to support business development and revenue growth, quality client service delivery, methodology development, innovation, alliances/partnerships, firm acquisitions, research and intelligence, communities of practice, talent development, and learning.
In addition to overseeing both U.S. and global knowledge management teams, Boland’s knowledge management experience includes the launch of social media/collaboration capabilities, operationalizing moderation and monitoring, and the development of an industry-leading social media training course. He also served as the knowledge management lead for firm acquisitions, overseeing the migration and IP integration activities associated with the acquired company. Boland developed and implemented a multiyear expansion of overseas operations to multiple international locations, and led the onboarding of several hundred onshore professionals.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Boland held various leadership roles, including deputy chief knowledge officer at Deloitte and global head of knowledge management at North Highland. During his tenure at Deloitte, he also served as the federal practice channel director; industry channel director for strategy, research and innovation; and director of knowledge management for clients and markets. Boland began his career with Arthur Andersen as an auditor, serving a variety of industries, before joining the business consulting division, where he was first introduced to the field of knowledge management.
