CHICAGO — Grant Thornton LLP has promoted Billy Moore from chief financial officer (CFO) to a newly formed role as chairman of the firm’s Operating Committee. Further, the firm has tapped Grant Thornton veteran Sam Shaw to succeed Moore as CFO.
In his new role, Moore will lead numerous operational teams and functions at the firm – building on his three-year tenure as CFO. He will report to CEO Mike McGuire
“Billy brings a unique combination of operational vision and leadership skills that will strengthen our ‘Status Go’ philosophy throughout every part of our firm,” said Mike McGuire, CEO of Grant Thornton. “Billy is the embodiment of a firm centered on helping clients overcome challenges and create value.”
Moore previously served as the Professional Standards partner for the firm’s Carolinas practice. Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2009, he served for 15 years as the executive vice president and CFO of several publicly traded multinational companies, including Unifi, Inc., Polymer Group, Inc., and International Textile Group, Inc. In addition, he spent nearly 20 years with a professional services firm in numerous roles, including audit partner and managing partner of several offices.
Moore received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) in North Carolina and South Carolina and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
