"Robert’s years of service in government and his continued work in the private sector to promote good governance make him a strong role model for all financial professionals who serve the federal government."
ALEXANDRIA, VA --Grant Thornton LLP today announced that Robert J. Shea, principal in the firm’s Global Public Sector practice and former senior official with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), has been awarded the Andy Barr Award from the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) in recognition of his work exemplifying and promoting excellence in federal government service.
“We are delighted to recognize Robert with the Andy Barr award,” said Ann Ebberts, CEO of the Association of Government Accountants. “Our organization is comprised of the best and brightest financial professionals in government, and Robert Shea embodies the mission of the AGA to strengthen the work of the government.”
Shea received the Andy Barr award, named for a pioneering figure in government accounting, at the AGA’s Annual National Leadership Training event on February 24. Each year, AGA presents one award to formally recognize financial executives in the private sector who exemplify and promote excellence in the federal government, outstanding leadership, high ethical standards, and innovative management techniques. The award recognizes the cumulative achievements of private sector individuals who throughout their career have served as a role model for others and who have consistently exhibited the highest personal and professional standards.
“Robert’s many significant contributions to the promotion of federal management excellence are well-known, and he is highly deserving of this honor,” said Carlos Otal, managing partner of Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector. “Robert’s years of service in government and his continued work in the private sector to promote good governance make him a strong role model for all financial professionals who serve the federal government.”
In his current position with Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector, Shea provides performance management consulting services to government clients and leads the practice’s marketing and public policy activities. He previously served at OMB as Associate Director for Administration and Government Performance. Before joining OMB, Shea served as Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and served as its Chairman of the Board from 2013-2015. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Alexandria, Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
