CHICAGO, IL --Grant Thornton LLP’s National Partner for Auditing Standards, Mike Santay, has been elected to chair the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Santay began serving as chair at the Auditing Standards Board meeting on January 12, 2016.
“This is a tremendous honor, not just for Mike, but for Grant Thornton,” said Jeff Burgess, national managing partner of Grant Thornton’s Audit practice. “His selection by his peers to chair this important committee will help ensure that our profession continues to evolve and underscores our own commitment as a firm to audit quality.”
Santay joined Grant Thornton in 2003, and, in his current role, he leads the firm’s participation in professional committees and task forces focused on audit matters including developing firm responses to professional and regulatory proposals specific to auditing standards. He also assists in the development of firm audit policies and guidance and consults on risk management of other audit and firm matters.
Santay began his career at Arthur Andersen LLP, and has also worked in financial management roles at various public companies, including Quaker Oats Co., Fruit of the Loom, and RR Donnelly & Sons Co.
Santay is a certified public accountant in Illinois and has served in various task forces and committees with the Center for Audit Quality. He is on the board of Access Living of Chicago and currently serves as treasurer and finance committee chair for that organization. He holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University.
