Services provided Oracle HR Cloud
THE SITUATION Wells Enterprises, founded in 1913, is the world's largest family-owned and managed ice cream producer. With about 2,700 employees (mostly based in Le Mars, Iowa), Wells Enterprises produces more than 150 million gallons of ice cream per year under the Blue Bunny® label, the iconic Bomb Pop® frozen treats, as well as licensed frozen treat brands including Weight Watchers® frozen novelties. Yet managing the HR and payroll for its employees was a cumbersome, labor-intensive, highly manual process that relied on obsolete technologies. As Wells planned for continued growth, including a $40 million expansion to its Iowa plant, the company was eager to bring its HR processes into a streamlined, next-generation, technology platform that would enable significant self-reporting and seamless updates.

Services provided Through their planning process, the ice cream producer selected Oracle HR Cloud solutions, and chose our team to guide them through the implementation, from project initialization through successful deployment and adoption.

As Wells Enterprises sought continued growth, the outdated Lawson system it was using to process its HR and payroll, had become an obstacle. It required numerous manual add-on steps, as well as customized apps and cloud solutions simply to perform basic HR reporting functions. The back office functions were manual and labor intensive, yet provided limited value. Wells’ management wanted to move from the labor-intensive, manual processes to a streamlined, technology application for its HR, payroll, and eventually, talent management and compensation processes for its large and growing workforce.

Our team led Wells Enterprises through implementation of their new Oracle platform, including Oracle Cloud Core HR, Oracle Cloud Payroll and Oracle Cloud Benefits Administration.

•  Streamlining the HR/employee lifecycle through:
    •  Reliance on self-service to reduce HR transactional work and improve compliance
    •  Enterprise-wide workforce visibility – profiles, development, personal & job data dashboards
    •  Broad access to information for employees through cloud and mobile capabilities
•  Lessening administrative burden for employees, allowing them to focus on making and distributing the best ice cream in the world
•  Achieving a framework for growth and acquisition through a scalable platform
•  Maximizing the user experience for increased engagement and adoption

With the support of our team, Wells Enterprises launched its Oracle Cloud HR system enabling the organization to access its aggregated, consolidated data in one place, unlike the old process that required extensive manual additions to create reports. The self-service portal for employees offers an easy tool to access information and communicate, providing a much more engaging and simpler platform for employees to view and manage their own information and have visibility into pay and benefits.

Now that Wells Enterprises is up and running with Oracle Cloud HR, the company’s IT resources—once used to generate HR reports, support custom processes and patch Lawson—are freed up to deploy other strategic initiatives. Upgrades and key feature development happens in partnership with Oracle, so functionality will only increase.

The journey to the cloud positions Wells to adopt other cloud-based applications. The next stage for the company in the migration to Oracle Cloud HCM Solutions, including talent management and succession planning, and workforce compensation will enable management to align the goals of HR with the business strategy. In short, the new HR platform will help them make sure they have the talent to grow their business, and a fully scalable platform for growth and acquisition.
