State CIO say customer focus now a major priority

On the Horizon newsletter An increased focus on customers — local government partners, citizens using state technology services and individuals in state agencies — is a key theme in this year’s state CIO survey.

The Responsive State CIO: Connecting to the Customer provides the perspectives of state government IT leaders on the factors and trends driving the adoption of enterprise IT in their states. Customer needs and viewpoints were prevalent in many of the survey topics, whether discussing how CIO organizations structure themselves to respond to state customer needs, identifying the financial and economic models used to fund IT services, or responding to citizen ex¬pectations of new and emerging technology.

For the tenth consecutive year, Grant Thornton, National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) and the Computing Technology Industry Association collaborated to collect survey answers from 49 NASCIO member states and territories. Primary respondents were state CIOs; other contributors were deputy CIOs and other senior state IT leaders. The 2019 survey, as the previous nine surveys, is intended to deliver insights about essential state IT services to gover¬nors, legislators and business leaders.
