Brexit: Financial and operational impact on US insurance companies

The UK vote to leave the EU has brought on a great deal of financial disruption throughout the world. As economists and financial analysts begin to deal with this change in the short term, questions still remain on what financial impact Brexit will have in the long term. U.S. companies that have operations in or do business with the UK will now need to stay informed of all developments that unfold. Their future financial plans will have to remain fluid, taking into account what the UK-EU relationship post-Brexit might be. The current profile of UK-based insurers and intermediaries, and their ability to trade throughout the EU, will remain the same while the UK is a member of the EU. The same applies to EU-based insurers and intermediaries, and their ability to access the UK until the UK actually leaves the EU, a development that might take years. The uncertainty for the sector in the short, medium and long term may look very different.
