One of our key learning objectives was to help project managers understand the importance and balance of SMART with HEART. Both are major components of emotional intelligence (EQ). We discussed where EQ is required in order to manage change effectively, lead others to the vision and produce the desired results. We reviewed the history of EQ theory, the evolution of EQ models, measurement techniques to assess your EQ, and how to form a cohesive team using the five basic behaviors. Recognizing and facing the different types/maturity levels in EQ can and will lead to a smoother project.
