Hospital interim IT chief earns national recognition

Besides hospital and health system business news and analysis, Becker’s Hospital Review magazine covers leadership within the industry. In February 2015, the publication released its list of accomplished chief information officers from across the country. The selected CIOs and other executive-level IT leaders, according to the publication, “have demonstrated excellence in leadership by tackling the challenging world of health IT and innovating during a time of change in the industry.”

Among the “100 hospital and health system CIOs to know 2015” is the leader of Grant Thornton LLP’s Health IT practice. Partner David Reitzel was named to the list in recognition of his interim management role for Brookdale University Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y.

In its recognition, Becker’s Health Review described Reitzel’s work:

“After being made Brookdale University Hospital’s vice president and CIO in 2012, Mr. Reitzel began the daunting task of developing the hospital’s IT infrastructure from the ground up with limited resources.
