In May, 2022, Linda Miller was invited to testify before the House Oversight Committee Subcommittee on Government Operations on ways to tackle improper payments and fraud in government spending. A perennial problem, improper payments and fraudulent claims for government benefits ballooned during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ms. Miller's testimony advocates for a pivot away from outdated and ineffective models for tracking and decreasing improper payments across the federal government and the establishment of proactive, data-driven methodologies that have real promise to prevent these payments in the first place without making it harder for people to access benefits. She also published an opinion article in The Hill newspaper urging Congress to establish a new, dedicated anti-fraud office to assist agencies in its transition to a more modern approach to fraud prevention.
