COVID-19 and the energy sector

What’s next for energy companies?

Energy companies were already struggling with dropping oil prices and uncertain market conditions before the COVID-19 corona virus epidemic began. Now with the virus spreading in dozens of countries around the world, including the US, energy companies are scrambling to understand and contain its impact. On March 6, the date this podcast was recorded, OPEC and Russia failed to come to an agreement on production levels, leading to a price war that further drove down oil prices, underscoring the difficulties confronting many energy companies. In this podcast, Kevin Schroeder, a partner and leader of the Grant Thronton’s energy practice discusses a variety of issues, including:

  • How the Corona virus epidemic is affecting global energy demand and energy companies
  • How the outlook could change depending on the length of the crisis
  • How an ongoing crisis will further test a resilient but increasingly strained sector
