How to make friends and influence IT: Leadership tips in modern business
Track(s): Professional development
Jeffrey Silverman, Grant Thornton
Monday, June 13 | 10:00 am – 11:00 am | Bluethorn 3
Dale Carnegie was on to something in his book "How to Make Friends and Influence People"....it is essential in today's business to not just lead by authority, but rather inspire the team and foster rapport. I will discuss three techniques (stemming from leading minds like Carnegie, Robert Cialdini, and Simon Sinek and others) on leading a modern organization. I will show the impacts of authority within an organization, and how to best channel it to achieve results, including positive language techniques, the art of influence and the application of "love languages" within a business setting. I will draw upon my 20-year career as an IT Leader (CIO, VP) as well as a military career in Intelligence to discuss the do's and don'ts of technical leadership.
Hate global transfers? Have all your Tax Reporting Units (TRU) point to one Payroll Statutory Unit (PSU)
Track(s): Cloud HCM
Bill Stratton, Grant Thornton
Monday, June 13 | 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm | Pinyon 3
The standard practice during implementation was to have a one to one
relationship between your Payroll Statutory Unit (PSU) and your Tax Reporting
Unit (TRU). This structure was required if statutory wage limits like State Unemployment
should start over when an employee transfers to a new legal entity. A
recent enhancement to Oracle Cloud Payroll will now allow you to create an
enterprise-wide PSU that would include all the various TRUs. You now have
flexibility to state whether statutory limits should restart or automatically
transfer to the new TRU. Once implemented, Global Transfers become easier
to move an employee from one TRU to another. This presentation will outline the steps
to convert an existing PSU structure to the new enhanced and simplified structure.
