The stakeholders of nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions are pressured to evaluate whether their organizations are effective, use resources wisely and produce the level of expected outcomes. Developing focused scorecards and determining which performance indicators are most meaningful to measure have been a focus of management and trustees. We explore practices and processes for establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and scorecards, and highlight common pitfalls, as well as best practices.
