While most public companies have adopted the new lease accounting standard, many private companies continue to work towards implementation. Despite the prospect of a delayed effective date for private companies, there remains urgency to finalize implementation plans and identify pitfalls that might impede a successful adoption. From finding embedded leases to determining appropriate inputs to calculations, the complexity and time associated with implementing this new standard may surprise some. Having worked with numerous public companies through the implementation process, we are eager to share our learnings with private companies.
