CFO survey

The Association of Government Accountants (AGA),in partnership with Grant Thornton, has sponsored an annual federal chief financial officer (CFO) survey since 1996. Earlier AGA surveys focused on issues such as governance structure, human capital, financial systems, performance measurement, internal control and compliance.

In the 2010 survey, Meeting the Challenge and Improving ROI, the AGA, the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and Grant Thornton worked together to conduct 135 in-person interviews with financial management and audit executives in federal and state government. Another 133 financial professionals responded to an online survey of AGA and NASACT members. The survey covers a range of topics:

  • Financial reporting
  • Improving financial management
  • Information technology
  • Predictive analytics and risk management
  • Human capital
  • Reporting for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

    Conducted in partnership with the Association of Government Accountants and the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers, this survey is now in its 16th year. The 2010 survey probes the views of 268 government financial professionals, focusing on how they are meeting some of the challenges of the economic downturn.     This questionnaire was used for the in-person interviews conducted with government CFOs, deputy CFOs, comptrollers and directors of major financial management entities and programs, as well as members of the financial management oversight community.

  •   Financial Management: Providing a Foundation for Transition (2008 CFO Survey)

    Grant Thornton and the Association of Government Accountants joined together to produce the 12th annual survey of federal Chief Financial Officers. More than 230 federal financial executives and managers took part in the survey, which focused on the building blocks of a successful future for federal financial management. Among the areas highlighted were: financial reporting, accounting and auditing standards, internal controls, regulatory consolidation and integration, human capital management and the future role of the CFO.

  •   Scoring Financial Management & Oversight Efforts (2007 CFO Survey)

    Grant Thornton, in partnership with the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), has sponsored an annual federal chief financial officer (CFO) survey since 1996.  The 2007 CFO survey highlights the balance and tension between meeting compliance requirements and making strategic decisions.
