What are tax-exempt health care organizations doing in the face of declining revenues, growing governance and disclosure expectations, and closer scrutiny from regulators and donors? Since 2007, Grant Thornton’s National Board Governance Survey for Not-for-Profit Health Care Organizations has examined the governance of tax-exempt health care organizations in order to learn how these organizations are handling these increased demands. According to the 2009 survey, fiscal responsibility topped the priority list for heath care not-for-profit organizations, with most organizations cutting costs, enhancing governance or reassessing their strategic directions to cope with the down economy.
With governance of all types of organizations being increasingly called into question, not-for-profit healthcare organizations are being scrutinized more closely than ever before.
